When it comes to web-connected TVs there’s no such thing as slow build-up – we’re on the cusp of mass adoption and brands that are too slow to embrace the opportunities that have arisen will lose out.

Fresh research out this week from information and analysis firm IHS iSuppli has forecast that shipments of connected TVs, games consoles, and Blu-ray players are likely to top the number of shipments of PCs within as little as two years.

Collectively these connected devices will surge to 503.6m units in 2013 globally – up from 161m this year. Whereas PC shipments over the same period are forecast to amount to 253.3m – up from 222.3m this year, according to the IHS iSuppli Consumers Platform Report.
